Recently I heard a recording of Raga Saazgiri by Vilayat Khan. It was
mesmerizing. It had no signs of "beatings the hell out of the
strings" (I dont know what to call it though), which is prevalent in
his later recordings. Which raga is saazgiri most closely related to?
I searched the sawf archives but couldn't find anything about this
raga. Has anybody else sung or played it?

I think Ustad Vilayat Khan recorded this LP in the mid 70-s as a
tribute to Amir Khusrau, who is credited to have created this raag.

I'll leave it to the knowledgables to elaborate on the structure and
nature of this raag (which most probably an evening raag).

I do not know much beyond this.

Regards.

I have a recording of Dinkar Kaikini singing it at Laxmi Krida Mandir
in Pune from 1985.

Unfortunately the programme was at the end of Diwali and his singing
is interrupted frequently by loud explosions, rendering the recording
essentially unlistenable (unless I go through it and reduce all the
bangs to whispers).
